TOPIC:  The Universal Language – DISC:  Using Behavioral Styles for Improved Effectiveness in Your Financial Planning Practice

In this discussion, Mr. Mayer will discuss what DISC is and what it is not and the history of DISC, including the academic beginnings and the evolution.  He will explore and explain the assessment tool; what it measures, the four DISC behavior style categories, and examples of each (Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Compliance).

He will teach you how to identify and adapt to core behavioral styles by providing useful tools and highlighting important caveats.  He will also discuss how DISC can be used to improve effectiveness when working with clients and other professionals and advisors to your clients, as well as how it can improve communications, management and leadership, and team and group work.

SPEAKER: Wes Mayer

Wes Mayer is a certified business coach affiliated with FocalPoint International.  As a business coach, he works with business owners and business unit leaders to grow their business and to improve the performance of their organization. 

Having owned his own management consulting firm since 1999, his background includes senior management roles with Oppenheimer Funds, Manulife Financial, Merrill Lynch and Mass Mutual.  His diverse background allows him to bring a deep knowledge of business and practical hands-on experience to clients.

Accomplishments include: leading sales and marketing organizations; developing new distribution channels; leading organizational change and transition; leading the development and introduction of new lines of business; and managing joint ventures and strategic alliances.  In addition, he has direct experience with international and offshore markets and particular expertise in business to business relationship management.

Speaker:  Stephen P. Wood, Ph.D., Chief Market Strategist, North America

Stephen Wood is chief market strategist, North America for Russell Investments. Based
in New York, Dr. Wood conducts research on, and acts as one of Russell’s external
voices for the economy, capital markets, portfolio strategies, and investor behavior. Dr.
Wood works closely with Russell’s institutional clients and retail partners to
communicate Russell’s global market perspectives, investment process and portfolio
management. He joined Russell in 2005.

Dr. Wood is a frequent contributor to the international media. He appears on CNBC,
BBC, Fox Business Network, Bloomberg TV, and PBS and is often quoted in
