* This presentation will discuss basic ERISA and employee benefits issues from the prospective of the financial planner. Jay will explain ERISA disclosure rules that will help you understand the strengths and weaknesses of your clients' benefit plans. He will also discuss rules impacting retiree medical coverage, including COBRA, HIPPA portability, and President Obama's Affordable Care Act, as well as the Supreme Court's anticipated decision on the constitutionality of the individual mandate.
James P. McElligott, Jr. is a partner in the Richmond office of McGuireWoods LLP. He is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Attorneys, and is listed in Chambers USA, Best Lawyers in America, and SuperLawyers under both Employee Benefits and Labor and Employment.
** This presentation will discuss advisor relationships with clients with an emphasis on women's approach to financial issues. We will explore the question of whether there really is truth to financial stereotypes between genders. This discussion will include a perspective from serving women clients as well as a perspective of whether there are differences in the approaches of women and men advisors. We will review common myths of gender financial bias, the psychology of spousal relationships, and explore two different financial plan approaches. The financial planning discussion will range from a recently divorced woman who had never been involved in financial issues for her family to a female high-level executive at a publicly traded company.
