*No meetings during the summer months*
June, July & August
I read a lot of financial articles from a wide variety of resources. I'm always amazed at the conflicting guidance by the supposed "experts" on where and how to invest your money. Buy gold, don't buy gold. Buy value stocks, don't buy value stocks buy growth stocks. Buy managed funds, don't buy managed funds buy indexed funds. We as financial planners do provide investment advice. But it's not always about rate of return for your clients. Sure that can be important but clients benefit from our services in many other ways that can be just as important.
Pointing to a 2012 study sponsored by the Investment Funds Institute of Canada, which represents the fund companies, the study said advisers are key to boosting savings rates. The study showed households that use a financial adviser save at twice the rate of households that are passive investors and not using an adviser.
Amazing that simply using an advisor can affect how our clients save money. Add that to the long list (insurance planning, retirement planning, investment planning, etc.) of reasons our clients need our services.
April's lunch meeting will be the last one before our summer break so come and listen to Steve Scranton from Washington Trust Bank. Steve is a CFA and the economist for the bank. The main topics will be:
- What are the sources of growth for the U.S.
- Personal Spending
- Business Investment
- Net Exports
- Government Spending
- What could change the outlook for the economy?
- Policy error
- Geopolitical events
