The children are back in school and summer is coming to a close. It’s time to get back to doing what we do best, helping our clients achieve their financial goals, and with passion I might add. A recent poll found nearly ½ of parents are without a financial plan and a large percentage is without insurance or carry inadequate coverage. It’s without question a good financial plan for a family can be devastated without planning for a premature death or an unhealthy event. Our responsibility as financial planners entails so much more than a few aspects of our client’s financial portfolio. Your clients look to you for advice in so many different areas. Even in uncertain times, you are the one that your client should have faith and confidence in helping them make appropriate decisions for their situation.
Financial Planning week is October 1-7. As a member of the Financial Planning Association, it is my hope you get involved in what you believe in. The Iowa local FPA Chapter will be recognized in the Des Moines Register again this year both in print and on the internet with your picture. What a great way to publicize your profession to a large group of readers. We will be hosted on a local radio station to relay our Financial Planning message to the public. We will seek for our Governor’s proclamation. We will be involved again with our KCCI Phone Bank. What will you do personally with your own clients? Some suggestions are on Page 2.
I also hope to see you at our next luncheon September 18th at the Embassy Club West where we will have a panel discussion regarding “Planning for High Net Worth Clients”. It’ll be a great meeting to bring a guest!
Lastly, we have a dynamic Symposium lined up for you on Tuesday, November 6th where you will have a day full of great speakers, almost all sessions offering CE’s for CFP and Insurance and 3 hours of ethics this year to accommodate both the 2 hour CFP requirement and 3 hour Insurance requirement. Please contact our administrator Erin Ramsey at firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved with any our programs.
As we enter into the last 4 months of 2012 and await the outcome of a new election, have conviction and pride in knowing you make a difference as a partner in the lives you touch.

2012 FPA of Iowa Chapter President
