2013 Chapter Meeting Schedule: 


Unless otherwise specified, all meetings are on the 3rd Thursday
Time: 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM 
Location: Federal Reserve Bank, 524 Liberty Parkway 
Directions and parking information here

Format: Eat together in a gourmet style cafeteria until 11:55, then move to conference room for presentation.  Food is not allowed in conference rooms. Please RSVP and arrive on time to enjoy  lunch and the speaker. 

Registration: $10 members, $15 non-members (see below for more information)

 RSVP: Online or FPA of North Alabama by the Friday before the meeting. Season Ticket holders must RSVP also.

This is a two-step process. Both registration & payment must be received.

The Federal Reserve is a secure facility. The doors will be opened 11:15 - 11:45.
FPA is committed to pay for each reservation made. If you cannot keep your reservation, notify Pat by Friday before the meeting.  No shows who fail to cancel will be billed $20.

About the Program: Join us for the April Chapter Meeting as Harold Apolinsky and Howard Neiswender, both shareholders of Sirote & Permutt, PC, discuss estate planning for the spouse, children, and grandchildren. In the discussion they will also examine maintaining financial independence by reducing liability exposure.

Harold is an Estate Planning Law Specialist, as well as a Registered Federal Lobbyist with a focus on repealing tax at death. He received his B.S. from The University of Alabama, and his J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law.

Howard specializes in estate, asset protection, tax, and business succession planning for individuals and business owners. He received his B.A. from The University of Alabama, and his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law.

About the Program: A discussion of Compass EMP Funds methodology behind their patent-pending Volatility-Weighted Indexes.  The discussion will include the cap-weighting bias in existing indexes, such as the S&P 500, and it will provide an alternative solution for indexing that emphasizes a target weighting for members on the basis of volatility.

About the Program:
Mr. Joseph Borg is an American financial regulator who has served as the Securities Commissioner of Alabama since 1994. In this position, he is responsible for prosecuting financial crimes which affect Alabama residents. He has also served as the president of the North American Securities Administrators Association for two terms. Due to his successful record of prosecuting financial crimes, he has been described in Forbes as "Wall Street's Worst Nightmare". Smart Money magazine listed Borg in its listing of "The Power 30- The Top Financial Players" citing his 98% conviction rate and calling him "one of the toughest 'stock cops' in America".
Mr. Borg is currently the Securities Commissioner of Alabama. The Alabama Securities Commission regulates the securities industry in Alabama. ASC is committed to protect investors against securities fraud and provides aggressive enforcement actions against any firm or individual who has violated the Alabama Securities Act or other state and federal statutes to the detriment of Alabama investors.  Mr. Borg will provide the FPA with an economic update and review laws effecting the financial planning and investment industries. About the Program: 
David Moore, Co-Founder and Chairman of Compass EMP Funds, will be presenting The Alternative Solution.  The presentation will review multi-asset alternative mutual funds that seek to capitalize on significant rising or declining market conditions. He will review the rules-based asset allocation methodology designed to provide diversification among many asset classes, markets and economies around the world. The presentation will review the effects on returns when an emphasis is placed on alternative asset classes compared to traditional stock and bonds in client portfolios. The presentation is approved for 1 hour of CFP credit.
