Cincinnati Summer Youth Financial Literacy Program
FPA of Greater Cincinnati seeks your help with the Cincinnati Summer Youth Financial Literacy Program
The Greater Cincinnati Financial Planning Association is pleased to partner with the Mayor’s Office and SmartMoney Community Services to assist with the largest Youth Financial Literacy Initiative in Cincinnati history. This program’s genesis began with the success of the Cincinnati Financial Planning Day, and the Mayor’s continued dedication in encouraging such programs through corporate and community partnerships. The FPA wants to provide 20 volunteers to aid in this project in the course of the summer. Volunteers do not need to be from financial backgrounds.
The Summer Youth Job Fair has been an initiative of Mayor Mark Mallory since 2006 for youth, ages 14 to 18; where 6000 teenagers and employers come together for job opportunities. On Thursday April 28th, at the Summer Youth Job Fair, an additional program will be announced- the Cincinnati Summer Youth Financial Literacy Program. This financial education program, the largest initiative in Cincinnati history, will last all summer and will offer 1000+ teenagers and recent college graduates the free opportunity to learn about managing their present and future financial issues as part of their employment with the Summer Youth Employer Partners. The program is being facilitated by the Mayor’s office, SmartMoney Community Services, Bank of America, the Greater Cincinnati Financial Planning Association and other local community organizations.
A volunteer in the course of the summer is required to assist with a minimum of 4 workshops, 2 in July and 2 in August, each requiring about 2 hours of work. Each volunteer facilitator will also need to do a 4-6 hour “train the Trainer” session to learn the SmartMoney Financial Education Materials that are being provided by SmartMoney’s Corporate Sponsors. To learn more and to volunteer, please contact Michelle Bova for details. (www.Smart-Money.org, 513-241-7266 x 102, bovam@smart-money.org). You may also contact admin@fpacinti.org.
Volunteers needed to help with Summer Youth Financial Education Workshops
As you know, the Mayor of Cincinnati, Mark Mallory, and SmartMoney Community Services has initiated the largest Youth Financial Education Initiative in Cincinnati history. The goal is to provide several free financial workshops to Cincinnati youth through the course of the summer. These workshops will provide these disadvantaged participants with the opportunity to learn about budgeting, savings, credit and banking. The city needs our help to change the financial direction of their lives.
With sponsorship from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, grant money from Dollarwise, and financial educational materials donated from the National Financial Educators Council; SmartMoney Community Services needs our expertise and facilitation skills to present the information throughout the summer in pre-arranged workshops. “Train the Trainer” sessions begin next week, so that the workshops can begin in early June and continue throughout the summer. Please email admin@fpacinti.org to express interest in volunteering and she will inform Lisa Rosser, who can then provide you with more details and schedule your training session and workshop dates. They can utilize anyone with a financial background, does not require that you have a specific credential.
This is an easy volunteer opportunity that can have a big impact on the lives of Cincinnati Youth.
