About My Practice
Brian serves as a trusted advisor to successful Generation X professionals, helping them with:
- Managing their finances when children and careers take up more and more of their time
- Being good stewards upon receiving sudden money such as an inheritance
- Providing a second opinion on existing investments and insurance policies
- Handling debt issues by examining spending habits and personal balance sheets
During his career, Brian has worked with a diverse client base – from a 25 year-old Marine Corps widow with an infant son to a multi-millionaire in his 90’s. Brian decided to concentrate on a Generation X clientele after finding that not only do most financial advisors focus on serving people who are ‘older’ and ‘richer’ but that his best client relationships were with people who are cut from the same cloth as him.
Brian strives to keep his practice collaborative, casual, and technologically proficient.
Brian has been interested in financial matters since watching Richie Rich cartoons as a kid. Over the years, his views have evolved - first by going to the library with his father to read investment periodicals and then by the rise and fall of his Roth IRA during the Internet Bubble.
Brian started his career by working as a commissioned stockbroker - something he describes as being a used-car salesman when he really wanted to be a mechanic. Prior to starting Stillwater, Brian spent five years as a financial advisor with auto insurance giant USAA.
Brian is a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate of the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and earned his law degree from the University of Nebraska of College of Law. In addition to being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ since 2006 he has earned several other industry designations. He is an inactive member of the Nebraska and Arizona bar associations.
Brian lives in Scottsdale with his wife and two young sons. Outside of work and family, his passions include Kansas City Royals baseball, playing his vintage Nintendo NES, and grilling on his Big Green Egg.
