During the 1980s Mitchell was the co-host and managing editor of the nationally syndicated PBS-TV series "The Financial Advisors." During the late 1990s and early 2000s, he was a regular guest on Los Angeles KRLA-AM talk radio, discussing financial planning, ways to maximize retirement income and strategies for creating lower risk investment portfolios.
