About My Practice

Johnson Lyman Wealth Advisors is a Palo Alto based registered investment advisor. The firm was created from a partnership of Steve Johnson and Rob Lyman to deliver best-in-class Wealth Management services to high net-worth families and individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our Wealth Management process is a highly individualized framework that empowers you to make thoughtful and prudent financial and investment decisions. It enables you to plan for the key financial milestones in your life and the lives of your loved ones. Since 1985, Johnson Lyman Wealth Advisors has been refining our approach to Wealth Management, which integrates strategic financial planning and investment management. A strategic financial plan is foundational to creating the life you want — and we bring knowledge, experience, and discipline to that process.
At Johnson Lyman Wealth Advisors, we are committed to your success. First and foremost, this means carefully listening to understand the values, principles and desires that you hold most dear. Our entire collaborative planning process is designed around this important tenet. After we listen and understand, our commitment is to help you create that vision.
We work with you to complete a strategic financial analysis that measures your ability to accomplish your long-term personal, professional and financial goals. We believe that financial planning is a continuous, dynamic process that addresses all of your financial concerns – in both an ongoing process and when major changes occur in your life.
Experience
Rob is President of the firm, a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ practitioner, and principal architect of the firm’s highly personalized and comprehensive Wealth Management service. Rob serves as the Lead Advisor for many of the firm’s clients, including corporate executives, business owners, entrepreneurs, successful professionals, and individuals and families.
Rob also specializes in helping business owners plan for the single, most critically important financial event in their lives – the successful transition out of their business. As part of this process, he supports owners in building value in the specific areas of their business that close the gap between where they are today and where they want to be when they successfully leave their business. Rob collaborates with owners and their other key advisors to create a plan and coordinates the work to be completed, enabling both the owner and the business to meet their long-term objectives.
Rob delights in making a difference in his clients’ lives. His passion and expertise is in partnering with clients, empowering them to clarify goals, discern next steps, and get into action. Rob enjoys collaborative work where a fresh perspective creates new possibilities and inspiration for a client. Rob has experience in the increasingly important field of behavioral investment counseling and serves as both a coach and advocate for his clients.
Rob is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a master's degree in engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. Professionally, he is active in the Silicon Valley chapter of the Financial Planning Association (FPA), where he serves on the program committee and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), where he has been designated as a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor. Rob has trained other fee-only financial planners at several NAPFA conferences, in

Considerations: Our intention is to work with anyone who wants to create a financial future. We charge an ongoing retainer (typically $2,500/quarter) for comprehensive Wealth Management. We do not require you to have a minimum level of assets to manage.
I will provide a free initial consultation to prospective clients so we may determine if their needs and my practice are well-matched.
