About My Practice

Summit Wealth Advisors, LLC. Is a proactive wealth planning firm with an emphasis on proactive investment management, and client communications.

We offer a systematic approach to crafting a customized plan for each client:

Step 1: We start with a complimentary meeting, where there is a mutual process of getting to know each other and decide if there is a desire on both sides to continue working together, and whether we feel that our services would be of benefit to you.

Step 2: Our first objective in the planning process is for us, together, to identify your personal goals and objectives, so that we can better understand how your primary assets--your time and your finances--can be organized to help achieve these goals. What do you want to happen, personally and financially, and in what time frame?

We will seek to compile all current assets, take an inventory of insurance coverage, wills and any estate documents, an annotation of your monthly income and expenses, and a review of your tax returns. We identify your investment experience and attempt to evaluate your tolerance for investment volatility and risk.

Step 3: We deliver a financial analysis, with proposals and preliminary recommendations. This includes long-term projections and an evaluation of whether the goals articulated are achievable within a reasonable time frame. At this time, we will make recommendations on all your investment holdings with suggestions for changes, if appropriate.

Our asset management advice will primarily be focused on exchange-traded mutual funds as the core investment while building a portfolio of satellite investments around this core.

Step 4: You provide us with feedback on our recommendations and determine what recommendations are most important to you and together we develop an action plan to implement the desired recommendations.

Step 5: We begin implementation. In situations where a specialist (attorney, or tax professional) is appropriate, we will provide referral options and offer to coordinate with that specialist. We complete asset transfers, implement the investment recommendations, establish new accounts where appropriate and continue to take action on any estate planning and insurance issues that were addressed in the plan.

Step 6: Each year, we come back to the goals and see what, if anything needs to be adjusted to the financial analyses, the financial plan and the action items for the coming year. Have any internal family or business events occurred that might trigger changes in your financial goals? Based on reasonable projections, are you on track to achieve your goals? Can anything be done to decrease the risks associated with accomplishing your goals?

In our work with other successful people, we have learned that your goals and objectives will change over time. Life is a journey. If your goal today is to reach the farthest hill you can see from here, then eventually we expect you to be standing on that hill. If that happens, it will be time to look around and create new objectives to be achieved.

Experience

Since 1985, Kevin J. Meehan has been serving individual and business clients, providing fee based financial planning as well as pension and profit sharing services. He has been involved in a range of roles with the financial services field from managing a significant clientele to managing a large financial services firm.

Kevin started his professional career as a special education teacher, looking for a profession that would give him a feeling of contribution at the end of each day. After four years in education, Kevin transitioned to business in a human resources function. Although he found the business environment intellectually stimulating and the economic opportunity attractive, he missed the feeling of significance given to him by the work he had done as a teacher. After thorough analysis and evaluation of opportunities, he found the role of being a financial advisor to be the best combination of both. In this role, Kevin is able to assist people in the very high priority of financial independence for themselves and their families.

Kevin is a Certified Financial Planner™, a licensed securities broker and also life, accident, and health insurance licensed. He has been with Raymond James since February of 2000. All of his energies continue to focus on serving the firm’s clients.

He has served in executive positions of professional trade organizations such as the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the Financial Planning Association.

Kevin is a resident of Arlington Heights, Illinois, where he lives with his wife Laura of 29 years. Kevin and Laura have identical twins, Adria and Ashley, and their youngest daughter, Tarah. He has been heavily involved in community organizations such as the Greater O’Hare Chamber of Commerce and Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church.
