Financial Planning Week® brings together those who provide, support and benefit from professional financial planning. During the week, FPA strives to create and build the public's awareness of the financial planning process to enable them to make prudent financial decisions to achieve their life goals and dreams.
In 2009, FPA and its nationwide network of chapters conducted events across the country, including educational seminars, hotlines and interviews — more than 90 events and 30 proclamations were secured nationwide by 35 chapters to help individuals discover the value of financial planning.
Through our efforts, the following activities were achieved:
- Financial Planning Week was featured in 122 media outlets including, print, Internet and broadcast, reaching nearly 57.8 million readers and viewers. Financial Planning Week was also featured in numerous consumer newspapers and magazines.
- FPA was featured in a special supplement of The Wall Street Journal for the fifth time on October 10. The supplement, "A Guide to Financial Planning," focused on retirement planning. Within the section, FPA President Richard Salmen, CFP®, CFA, EA, discussed his insight on the current financial regulation legislation under debate. FPA also recommended reading titles and promoted PlannerSearch®. The Wall Street Journal reaches nearly 2 million readers with its Saturday edition.
- FPA teamed up with Junior Achievement (JA) for the third time to teach elementary, junior and high school student's basic money management skills. Hundreds of FPA members volunteered to deliver financial literacy programs to hundreds of students in schools nationwide.
In celebration of Financial Planning Week, FPA launched additional educational resources to help the public discover the value of financial planning, including:
- A personal finance blog — "All Things Financial Planning Blog" — featuring writings and insights from some of the best minds in financial planning profession.
- An eNewsletter containing articles that offer practical financial planning advice and tips.
