Free Publicity

Book Review

Ever wonder how the gal or guy getting interviewed about retirement planning on national TV got that gig? Or why the same person seems to be quoted by your local reporter time and again? Stop wondering and find out how you can become the "expert" the news media seek.

Normally I find out about a book when our editor sends me a list of books to review. Not so with Free Publicity. I was in an FPA media training course and one of the speakers was Jeff Crilley. Jeff was brought in to explain what reporters wanted when interviewing an advisor. Jeff was also selling his book. I read it.

I recommend it.

Free Publicity is all about how to, well, get free publicity. There are lots of books on PR and marketing, but this is the first one I know of written by the people we are trying to approach: reporters. When you are trying to get free publicity, you don't have to talk a PR or marketing person into it—you have to convince a reporter that your story is worth running.
