What services does the Government Relations Department provide for the local FPA groups and individual members?
- Informs local FPA groups and individual members of current trends and changes in compliance requirements, particularly in the securities area.
- Coordinates comment and lobbying efforts with local FPA groups on issues of state interest.
- Promotes best compliance procedures for the financial planning profession.
- Provides assistance in helping members more fully understand their compliance needs.
As a member of the Financial Planning Association, you are the first to learn about new and pending state and federal legislative and regulatory provisions that could affect the way you do business. In Washington and in the states, FPA legislative efforts will continue to leverage a more unified voice on issues affecting financial planning, the profession and your clients.
The government relations office of the FPA, based in Washington, D.C., exclusively represents members’ interests before federal and state regulators and lawmaking bodies. The FPA staff, contract lobbyists and a network of FPA members monitor pending legislation, work directly with lawmakers to draft bills and testify in support of fair and reasonable regulations for the financial planning community.
