Giving vulnerable members of our communities a helping hand by sharing our professional expertise — that's what pro bono financial planning is all about. Throughout the country, FPA chapters are working with community partners to assist those with the greatest need for and the least access to the power of financial planning.

The FPA Pro Bono Program targets underserved individuals and families striving to build assets and improve their lives but cannot afford to engage a planner on their own. Chapters may also outreach to other populations in need to meet the specific needs of their communities.

About Financial Planning Association

The Financial Planning Association (FPA®) is dedicated to helping underserved populations by providing free, no strings attached, objective financial planning services to eligible individuals and families through its pro bono program.

Individual financial planners have been engaged in pro bono activities since the profession began. For FPA as an organization, the effort began with 9/11. Following the terrorist attacks, planners across the country expressed a desire to aid victims. FPA answered the call by establishing the Pro Bono Services Department to help coordinate the efforts of members and chapters.

A majority of FPA's nearly 100 chapters have active pro bono programs. These programs aim to serve people without access to financial planners. Populations include but are not limited to low-moderate income individuals, inmates, young adults, military, victims of domestic violence, and homeless. Planners assist clients with medical debt, credit/debt management challenges, job loss, retirement, and general financial planning concerns. Volunteers across the country are donating thousands of hours of their time. All are working not only to help the vulnerable members of our communities, but to invent a new form of community service - pro bono financial planning.

Pro Bono Advisory Committee

Pro Bono Advisory Committee supports and assists with the advancement of FPA's pro bono program. Today's approximately two-thirds of all chapters have a pro bono director or equivalent, working to organize pro bono initiatives.  Volunteers across the country are donating thousands of hours of their time to assist underserved individuals and families.

Pro Bono Advisory Committee consists of current or former Chapter Pro Bono Directors. Members provide insight and best practices related to individual chapter programs/initiatives.
