Track Overview

Below is a general overview of what each of the different conference tracks will be covering. Please contact the FPA Staff Liaison for more information.

Chapter Executives Track Pre-conference:

The Chapter Executives Pre-conference (November 10-11, 2011) is designed specifically for the chapters paid administrative support staff (chapter exeuctive, chapter administrator, etc.)

For the fourth year in a row, this pre-conference will provide attendees the ability to network with other chapter executives from across the country and gain valuable tools to help them support your chapter as effectively as possible. Through the sharing of great ideas related to the strategic planning process, maximizing technology and human resources and administrative challenges, chapter executives will come away energized and connected to a group of passionate and dedicated supporters of FPA.

The sharing of best practices is the perfect opportunity to interact with your peers and learn successful strategies to address the challenges your chapter is tackling. Best of all, you will become connected to a priceless community of like-minded chapter executives, who are passionate about their work and dedicated to being the best they can be, with whom you can forge ongoing relationships.

Finally, you'll be able to network with all attendees during the Chapter Leader Conference. You can attend the session(s) of your choice by selecting among the five conference tracks to build your knowledge base and broaden your experience, including a session dedicated to your unique role during the presidents track.  In addition to your dedicated time in the presidents track, the track also contains insights on managing chapter risk, strategic planning, succession planning, and much more.  You don't want to miss this!

Presidents-Elect Track:

Chapter presidents-elect face unique leadership issues such as developing and working with their Board, running effective board meetings, creating and implementing their chapter's strategic plan and preparing for succession. This track will incorporate several formats to create an interactive environment for learning and time for sharing best ideas and processes.  While this track is focused towards incoming presidents-elect, experienced presidents are encouraged to come share their experience and expertise.

Membership Directors' Track:

Continuing to grow membership and retain members is one of the on-going challenges facing FPA chapters. Competing priorities, challenging economic times and opportunities for members to get their needs met from many other sources makes it more challenging every year for chapters to clearly articulate the FPA value proposition and to remain a vital resource to those involved in the financial planning profession.

The FPA Chapter Leaders Conference 2011 offers membership directors an opportunity to gain additional knowledge and skills to grow and retain chapter membership.

Chapter membership directors, come and join colleagues focused on membership as we share best practices, find ways to increase member participation, discuss membership challenges and opportunities, and create the best membership experience possible at FPA.

Are you an incoming membership director? Or are you a returning membership director interested in a refresher course? Join us the morning of Friday, November 11, 2011, from 10am until 12pm, for an Introduction to Membership pre-conference!

In addition, we will be hosting a pre-conference introductory call in October 2011, more information to come!

Pro Bono Directors' Track:

To be a chapter pro bono director is to be a pioneer. It may mean recruiting volunteers who have no experience working with pro bono clients, forging ties with nonprofits that don't know what financial planning is, and creating an organization and structure from scratch. Trying to help people in need is not easy!

But that doesn't mean you're on your own. Many chapters are successfully creating and expanding pro bono programs. A library of advice and resources is available on the FPA Website.

Whether your chapter is working to sustain or establish a pro bono program, you will find valuable information and connections at the Pro Bono Directors’ Track. Registration and housing fees will be covered for one representative per chapter.

Attendees are also invited to take Pro Bono Boot Camp and earn one hour of continuing education credit from CFP Board.

Program & Education Directors' Track:

Continuing education alone won’t get members to attend your meetings. It takes a well-thought strategy integrating a compelling program and the fostering of a shared experience that connects people together. Through a combination of open dialogue, case studies and structured presentations, we will discuss and review tools, resources and best practices necessary to plan, execute and evaluate your chapter’s education program(s) from start to finish.

Public Relations & Public Awareness Directors' Track:

As the person responsible for growing and shaping the public profile of your chapter, you know the task can be daunting. The way you work with media, partner organizations and the community largely frames the way your FPA chapter is perceived. The challenge of the media, and ultimately the public, being cluttered with often contradictory messages from the financial services marketplace, makes it all the more critical to effectively communicate FPA's message.

FPA's Chapter Leaders Conference 2011 is offering a dedicated track for Chapter Public Relations and Public Awareness Directors. It will help you access the tools and build the skills for successful media relations and public awareness programs.

This is a vital event for Chapter Public Relations and Public Awareness Directors. Don't miss it!
