Retreat is a transformative experience. There's something about it that opens participants up to other possibilities. Beyond the advanced content of the program, it's about the depth of the conversation you have, networking with some of the best minds in the profession.
The theme this year is Trust, from the Inside Out, which represents our intent to explore trust in terms of trust of others, trust in others, and trust in and of ourselves.
The content will be organized in three educational tracks:
- Technical - examining the tools, techniques & assumptions that planners trust, as well as some they don't. Includes Modern Portfolio Theory and products they use.
- Experiential - experiencing trust from the client's perspective. New developments in advice science. Expanding client comfort zones while improving their decision making abilities.
- Future Think - exploring the future of planning and the delivery of advice in a digital age. Anticipating breakdowns in trust brought about by disruptive technologies, regulatory influences, and competitive pressures.
As you explore this site, you will see how the sessions will challenge and push the envelope on how you think about, act on and pursue financial planning.
If you are serious about financial planning, you cannot miss this unique event!

FPA Lifelong Learning Competency Model
FPA's knowledge and learning experiences are designed to meet the needs of all career stages within the financial planning profession. As you grow in experience and expertise you need knowledge, talents, skills and strengths to gain success. To help you identify the best learning opportunity for you, we have created the FPA Lifelong Learning Competency Model. The model serves as a resource to help you identify the intended scope and learning level of a particular education program. Each program will be flagged with the Career Stage and Competency that the session most closely aligns to from an educational perspective. Think of it as a guidepost for your learning.
Please Note: When applicable, FPA will reference CFP Board of Standards Topic List for CFP® Certification Examination by denoting the topic that most closely aligns to the learning event. These include:
- General Principles of Financial Planning
- Insurance Planning & Risk Management
- Investment Planning
- Income Tax Planning
- Retirement Planning
- Estate Planning
- Interpersonal Communication
