As many of you know, I am a firm believer that community is the glue that holds together the diverse elements of a thriving profession. In the January/February 2011 issue of Practice Management Solutions, I talked about the importance of community, and as the end of my year as your 2011 FPA president draws near, I can't help but reflect upon where we've been, how we got here and our path in the future.
This has been another trying year for our profession. We continue to be challenged in ways that we could not have foreseen even a year ago. During these difficult times it's important to come together as a community of professionals to lend support, challenge the status quo and take our profession to new heights.
The FPA community is a melting pot of members with varying experience, business models, client bases, specialties, compensation methods, passions and much more. FPA members come together on their commonalities and form study groups, online discussion boards and communities of interest to support each other in shared interests. We're a patchwork of small groups with a shared home-FPA.
This year brought the launch of a new online discussion board called FPA Connect, which is a place for like-minded members to communicate with others about topics important to them. FPA members are free to form their own communities and discussions. If you haven't visited the platform yet, you're doing yourself a disservice. There's something for everybody at FPA Connect.
Members have quickly incorporated FPA Connect into their social media repertoire, and we've seen exciting growth in the communities and discussions. One community of special note is the CFP member group. This is a place where FPA's CFP members can have open, honest and respectful conversations. As the community grows we will see resource sharing and more in-depth discussion regarding an array of topics important to CFPs.
FPA and now FPA Connect are the home base for you as you wander and explore all of the communities within our profession. As we move forward as an FPA community our differences will become minute, and our visions will converge as we focus on the shared goals and dreams of our profession. Thank you for being part of this vibrant community with me.
