FPA Honors Lewis Walker with 2011 P. Kemp Fain, Jr. Award

DENVER – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) today announced Lewis Walker, CFP® as its 2011 P. Kemp Fain, Jr. Award honoree.

The P. Kemp Fain, Jr. Award recognizes an FPA member who has made outstanding contributions to the financial planning profession in the areas of service to society, academia, government and professional activities, and upholds FPA’s Core Values: Competence, Integrity, Relationships and Stewardship.

“Lewis has demonstrated a tireless commitment to the development of the financial planning profession throughout his more than 30 years as a financial planner,” said Marvin W. Tuttle, Jr. CAE, FPA executive director and CEO. “His enthusiasm for the advancement of the profession and dedication to strengthening the financial planning community make him a standout recipient of the P. Kemp Fain Jr. Award. FPA is thrilled to recognize his achievements with this honor.”

Walker has been in individual practice as a financial planner and registered investment adviser, and has run his own independent financial planning and investment management practice since 1976. He is currently president of Walker Capital Management Corporation and Life Transitions Advisors, LLC, in Norcross, GA.

His strong ties to the financial planning community include serving in leadership roles with a predecessor organization of FPA, the Institute of Certified Financial Planners from 1986-1988 as national president and chairman. Additionally, from 1998-1999, Walker served as national president of the Institute of Certified Investment Management Consultants and oversaw the merger into the Investment Management Consultants Association.

He graduated from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service and received his MBA from Northwestern University. He gained his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation from the College for Financial Planning in 1975. Since then, he has continued his education, taking many courses on tax, finance, asset management, risk management, compliance as well as on economic history and life coaching. Currently he serves on the Wealth Advisor Institute Board of Directors.

Walker is a long-running columnist for The Journal of Financial Planning and currently is writing a book applying fiduciary ethos to the challenges of aging, healthcare and special needs. He is frequent guest on numerous news and financial management programs. Walker has been a featured speaker on financial and investment topics for colleges, universities, professional associations, convention groups and corporations in the U.S. and overseas.

He will be recognized for his award at FPA Experience 2011, the annual conference of the financial planning community, to be held Sept.15 – 18 in San Diego, Calif.
