Professional expert to bring enhanced insight to prestigious Journal of Financial Planning
May 15, 2012 – DENVER, CO – The Financial Planning Association® (FPA®) announced that noted financial planning expert Michael E. Kitces, CFP®, CLU, ChFC, RHU, REBC will join its team in the newly created role of practitioner editor for the Journal of Financial Planning. Working closely with the award-winning publication’s editorial staff, headed by editor Lance Ritchlin, Kitces will provide the Journal with unique insights into key technical and practice-related issues and emerging trends in financial planning.
Kitces is a partner and the director of research at Pinnacle Advisory Group, a financial planning and investment management firm in Columbia, Md. He is well known as the publisher of The Kitces Report and the blog Nerd’s Eye View through his website (www.kitces.com). Kitces has also been a frequent contributor to the Journal and speaker at FPA conferences.
FPA’s Journal of Financial Planning is published monthly and its content is focused on expanding the body of knowledge in the financial planning profession. Launched in 1979, the Journal features thought-provoking articles, interviews, columns and peer-reviewed technical contributions that are directly beneficial to financial planners in their work.

Kitces’ responsibilities will involve editorial review of manuscript submissions and helping secure new authors; research guidance; featured writing in the Journal and other FPA outlets; and acting in an “ambassador” role for FPA at key industry events and conferences.

A member of FPA of Maryland, Kitces has chaired a number of FPA national and chapter committees and is a co-founder of FPA NexGen, a community of next generation financial planners. He has received the 2010 Heart of Financial Planning award from FPA. Kitces has been a featured speaker at hundreds of industry events and has co-authored several books including “The Annuity Advisor” with John Olsen and “Tools & Techniques of Retirement Income Planning” with Steve Leimberg and others. He is also the national chair of the Financial Planning Section for the Society of Financial Services Professionals and has served the group in other volunteer capacities. Kitces holds a Master of Science in financial services and a master’s in taxation, in addition to his Bachelor of Science degree.
